A reel spinning gaming device10includes a plurality of selectable reels20each having game symbols30located thereon, a selection system40,and an actuating system50.Each reel displays an outcome symbol30after having been spun. The selection system40designates a subset of the selectable reels as the initial active reels70for the initial game. The actuating system50then spins the initial active reels70,after which a prize may be awarded dependent upon the combination of the outcome symbols30from the initial active reels70.The selection system40then designates a new subset of the selectable reels20as the active reels70for each subsequent consecutive game by substituting a non-active reel from the previous game with an active reel from the previous game. The actuating system50then spins the newly substituted active reel.
