ABSTRACT:
A cordless phone1is able to communicate signals3via antenna2and3with transponder unit5.When the transponder5is physically connected (as shown) via multi-way connector12to base station19,the system communicates via PSTN interface9and cable10connected to local-loop socket11within a fixed telephone network. When the transponder5is disconnected (not shown) from base station19,the system communicates via external antenna6by radio link with a local base station within a cellular phone network. The base station19provides means to recharge the batteries (not shown) of cordless phone1via connectors13and transponder unit5via connectors14,with dc supply being provided by power plug16via cable17.The transponder unit may include a display screen and PDA electronics (not shown), or, be incorporated within a portable computer (not shown).
