A multi-grip blind rivet74includes a rivet body82, adapted to receive a portion of a mandrel76. A plurality of indentations88are formed in an outer surface86of the rivet body82in each of three axially spaced transaxial planes. Each indentation88is formed with a work hardened base surface90having a convex portion, which is formed with axially spaced first and second transaxial edges106and108having nonlinear portions. Adjacent indentations88are separated by ribs89. A flared intermediate surface122extends between the base surface90and the outer surface86. The rivet74is assembled within aligned holes128and130of workpieces124and126, respectively, where, upon setting of the rivet, the indentations88collapse and the outer surface86bulges against walls of the holes to retain the workpieces together.
