ABSTRACT:
Solid fuel supported on a grate within the combustion chamber of a furnace, is ignited by a liquid or gas fuel burner projecting its flame entirely within the same combustion chamber. A forced inflow of air is preheated by being conducted below and in surrounding relation to the combustion chamber and then passed in heat exchange relation to heat transfer ducts through which combustion products are conducted from the combustion chamber.
