ABSTRACT:
Improved monodisperse spheroidal particle latices of vinyl chloride polymers, e.g., having particle sizes ranging from 0.17 to 0.8 .mu.m or from 0.5 to 1.2 .mu.m, are produced by aqueous emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer, whether in a single stage or in two stages, in the absence of surface-active agent, in the presence of at least 0.2% by weight of at least one water-soluble alkali metal or ammonium persulfate initiator, and also in the presence of at least one water-soluble auxiliary compound that is a solvent for vinyl chloride, in such amount that the solubility of vinyl chloride in the aqueous phase at 25.degree. C. at atmospheric pressure is at least 1.5 g/l.
