High molecular weight thermotropic aromatic copolyesteramides which can be molded/extruded into useful shaped articles having improved mechanical properties are comprised of recurring structural units of the formulae (I), optionally (II), (III) and (IV): ##STR1## and have yield temperatures ranging from 200.degree. to 350.degree. C.
