ABSTRACT:
A damper seal (310) and method of sealing and damping a rotating shaft (312) are disclosed. The damper seal (310) includes a stator housing (314), a plurality of cavities (C.sub.1, C.sub.2, C.sub.3, C.sub.4), a first sealing blade (316) for modulating the fluid flow into the cavities, and a second sealing blade (318) with notches (330) and/or holes (340) for modulating the fluid flow exiting the cavities (C.sub.1, C.sub.2, C.sub.3, C.sub.4) less than the fluid flow entering the cavities (C.sub.1, C.sub.2, C.sub.3, C.sub.4) to provide improved damping and sealing.
