ABSTRACT:
An asphalt/epoxy resin coating composition in which asphalt and epoxy resin are sufficiently compatible with each other is produced by mixing under heat asphalt with a condensation product of an asphalt and a non-thermoreactive phenol resin such as C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 alkylphenol-formaldehyde resin, the condensation being effected at a temperature of 160.degree. to 200.degree. C. in the presence of an arylsulfonic acid as catalyst.
The coating composition gives an excellent coating without separation of asphalt or silking based on the incompatibility of asphalt and epoxy resin, by mixing with a curing agent for epoxy resin.
