DESCRIPTION:

BRIEF SUMMARY
This application has been filed under 35 USC 371 from international application PCT/EP92/01445, filed Jun. 26, 1992.
The invention relates to the technical field of the crop protection agents, in particular active substance/antidote combinations which are outstandingly suitable for use against competing weeds in crops of useful plants.
Some of the more recently developed herbicidal active substances from the group of the substituted phenyl- or pyridyl-pyrimidinyl(triazinyl) ethers have very good properties and can be used at very low application rates against a broad range of grassy or broad-leaved weeds.
However, they are not completely compatible (selective) with some important crop plants such as corn or cereals, so that their use is greatly restricted. This is why they sometimes cannot be employed at all, or only at application rates which are too low to guarantee the desired broad herbicidal activity. For example, many herbicides of the substance class A) mentioned below cannot be employed selectively in corn or in cereals.
Recent experiments have shown, completely unexpectedly, that crop plants such as corn or wheat and barley can be protected against undesired damage due to the abovementioned herbicides when they are applied together with certain compounds which act as herbicidal antidotes or safeners.
The invention therefore relates to herbicidal agents which contain
A) at least one herbicidal active substance from the group of the substituted pyrimidines and triazines of the formula A, ##STR2## in which X is O, S or NR.sup.4, -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)haloalkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)haloalkoxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylmercapto, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylamino or di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylamino, ##STR3## n is 0 or 1, W is --O--, --NR.sup.4 --, --S--, --ON(R.sup.11)-- or --O--N.dbd.C(R.sup.11)--, cyano, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkenyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkynyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkenyloxy, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkynyloxy, benzyloxy, 4,6-di[(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy]pyrimidin-2-yloxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylthio, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkenylthio, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkynylthio, benzylthio, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylamino, di-[(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl]amino, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)haloalkyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)haloalkoxy, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkynyl, alkali metal or 1 equivalent alkaline earth metal, alkylammonium, aryl, CF.sub.3 or (CHR.sup.13).sub.m' CHR.sup.7 R.sup.8 where m' is 0 or 1, -C.sub.4)alkyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, pivaloyl, benzoyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, aryloxy, haloacetoxy, methanesulfonyloxy, hydroxyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylmercapto, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylsulfonyl, arylmercapto, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylamino, pyridyl, aryl or CONR.sup.9 R.sup.10, -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkenyl, aryl or benzyl, disubstituted by radicals selected from the group comprising halogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, phenoxy, nitro and (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxycarbonyl, ##STR4## R.sup.14 is hydrogen, halogen, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, cycloalkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylmercapto(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, hydroxy(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, hydroxyl, cyano, aryloxy(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, thienyl, aryl, dihydronaphthyl or ##STR5## where aryl is as defined above, R.sup.20 is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy or S(O).sub.p R.sup.21, or together with the carbon atom form a 3-, 4-, 5- or 6-membered cycloalkane ring in which a methylene group can be replaced by oxygen and which can be substituted by one or two alkyl groups, -C.sub.4)alkyl, can be substituted by one or two alkyl groups, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkynyl, phenyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylideneamino, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxycarbonyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, halo(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, cycloalkyl, nitro-substituted phenylmercapto(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, halogen or benzyl which can be substituted by (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy,
