A mixture of avian intestinal microflora for adminstration to poultry to prevent or inhibit paratyphoid salmonella infection (including infection by the arizona groups) in the poultry or in the presence of infection to reduce the incidence and excretion rate of paratyphoid salmonella, is disclosed.
