ABSTRACT:
Calcium .alpha.-p-chlorophenoxyisobutyrate, particularly as its novel monohydrate, when combined with about one to two parts by weight of calcium carbonate in oral dosage form for use in mammals, and especially man, provides a safe and effective composition for reducing elevated blood levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and/or low density lipoproteins and/or increasing fibrinolytic activity and/or decreasing platelet aggregation. A preferred embodiment is a capsule containing 500 mgm. calcium carbonate and 250 or 500 mgm. crystalline calcium .alpha.-p-chlorophenoxyisobutyrate monohydrate having the empirical formula C.sub.10 H.sub.10 ClO.sub.3 Ca.sub.1/2.H.sub.2 O.
