A new and distinct variety ofMentha canadensis(‘Metolius’) is characterized by its unique oil chemistry and flavor profile resembling that of peppermint oil, and by its tolerance toVerticilliumwilt (Verticillium dahliae) and mint rust (Puccinia menthae). DNA microsatellite marker analysis has shown that ‘Metolius’ is a distinct variety ofM. canadensis.
