ABSTRACT:
A miniature impact tool in which a cam is utilized for moving a striker backward by converting rotary motion of a drive shaft to a linear motion. The striker is in contact with a spring/guide pin (plunger) assembly and is moved away from a surface to be struck during a portion of the rotation cycle of the cam. On further rotation the cam surface is cut away and spring action drives the striker forward, causing impact of a cutting tool (chisel) against a workpiece. An improved mechanism utilizing a plurality of cam lobe surfaces provides predetermined and reproducible impact forces on the cutting tool. This mechanism is not adversely affected by vibration of the tool.
