ABSTRACT:
Cyclic methyl fumaraldehyde monoacetals and a process for their production by oxidation of the corresponding methylbut-2-en-4-ol-1-al acetal with an H.sub.2 SO.sub.4 -containing solution of chromic acid in acetone. The new compounds are of considerable interest as intermediates in the synthesis of carotinoids.
