ABSTRACT:
The precipitation of scale forming salts in an aqueous system is inhibited by adding either stoichiometric or substoichiometric, including threshold, amounts to said system of a phosphonomethylene amino carboxylate of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.5, Q and Z are hereinafter defined.
