ABSTRACT:
A furnace of the kind in which molten glass is heated by electrode means defining separate respective heating zones situated in horizontally spaced regions of the furnace chamber, glass being withdrawn along a withdrawal flow path extending between the heating zones to the outlet. Additional heating means is provided to heat the glass at a locality above the withdrawal flow path in the vicinity of the outlet, producing an upward convective pressure to counteract downward entrainment effects caused by flow of glass to the outlet.
