ABSTRACT:
The invention provides a method for isolating a protein, specifically .beta.-casein, recombinantly produced in cells that have been genetically engineered to produce the protein. The method involves forming a paste, homogenate or lysate of the cells following fermentation to produce the protein, and performing a two-stage extraction procedure to isolate of the protein. By this method, recombinantly produces .beta.-casein can be isolated with less complexity and greater efficiency than in previously known methods for its isolation.
