ABSTRACT:
A method of producing a crusher wear part and the like subject to gouging abrasion type metal loss wherein the part is made of a modified austenitic (Hadfields) manganese steel having an Aluminum/Carbon ratio of 1.0 to 1.7, the casting being heat treated by heating to 2000.degree.-2050.degree. F. followed by a water quench to provide gouging abrasion resistance at least about 10% higher than that of Hadfields.
