ABSTRACT:
A method of treating psychoses in human beings with the atypical neuroleptic 5-chloro-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(1-(2-(2-imidazolidinon-1-yl) ethyl-4-piperidyl)-1H-indole, having the formula: ##STR1## or a pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof, thereby to selectively block dopamine neurones in the ventral tegmental area of the brain, substantially without blocking dopamine neurones in the substantia nigra pars compacta, and therefore without the usual extrapyramidal side effects of common neuroleptics, is disclosed.
