ABSTRACT:
This invention is concerned with a method of strengthening the alkali resistance of a porous glass, which comprises eluting the acid-soluble phase of a phase separation glass with an acid to form a porous glass, immersing the resulting porous glass in a solution of zirconium alcoholate to form a thin film of the zirconium salt on the surface of the porous glass, hydrolyzing, drying, calcining and thereby forming ZrO.sub.2 polymer on the surface of the porous glass.
