ABSTRACT:
For the removal of SO.sub.x and NO.sub.x from effluent gas, the gas, before being passed through a Selective Catalytic Reduction catalyst bed for reduction of at least a part of the nitrogen oxides in the gas, is subjected to at least substantially complete desulfurization in a coke bed. The desulfurized and denoxed gas can also be passed through a coke bed in which the ammonia which has not reacted in the SCR-catalyst bed is removed from the gas.
