ABSTRACT:
Substituted carbamate esters are prepared by treating an aromatic amide with hypochlorite ion in the presence of water and a water-miscible solvent at a low temperature, after which the reaction mixture is mixed with a substituted phenol and allowed to react at a temperature of at least 10.degree. C.
