ABSTRACT:
The invention is a method for pressure treatment of wood using compositions comprising aqueous solutions of one or more lanthanide derivatives. Wood is immersed in a pressure vessel containing a lanthanide derivative composition, and hydrostatic pressure is applied. The treatment is carried out at temperatures not exceeding about 95.degree. C., and more preferably at between about 20.degree. C. and about 30.degree. C. Pressure should be greater than about atmospheric, and preferably about 10 psi to about 300 psi.
