ABSTRACT:
In the preparation of overbased calcium sulfonates the use of a mixture of calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide wherein the mole ratio CaO/CaOH.sub.2 +Ca(OH).sub.2 ranges from 0.2 to 1.0 improves lime and sulfonate utilization and reduces the amount of solid waste material which must be filtered from the product.
