ABSTRACT:
A process for converting the lubrication system of an internal combustion engine from a system using an oil containing metallic and chemical friction modifiers, to an oil substantially devoid of such modifiers. A solvent and a perfluoroethylene resin are added to the existing oil in the lubrication system of the engine in sufficient amounts to remove oil residue or varnish from the surfaces within the lubrication system, and to coat the surfaces with perfluoroethylene resin. The oil, solvent and perfluoroethylene resin are circulated throughout the lubrication system for a time sufficient to remove oil residue or varnish from the surfaces within the lubrication system of the engine, and to coat the surfaces with perfluoroethylene resin. The oil, solvent and residual perfluoroethylene resin are evacuated from the lubrication system of the engine, and an oil substantially devoid of metallic and chemical friction modifiers is added to the lubrication system of the engine.
