ABSTRACT:
Method of preparing a sulfonated, dialkyl-substituted benzodioxole by reacting a 1,2-dihydroxybenzene with an aliphatic ketone containing 5 to 30 carbon atoms therein and under dehydrating conditions in the presence of an acidic catalyst at 50-150.degree.C. for 1 to 5 hours, removing the formed ketal from the reaction product and sulfonating said ketal with fuming sulfuric acid to form said sulfonated ketal.
