ABSTRACT:
A method of obtaining a titanium tanning agent, based essentially upon sulfuric-acid treatment of titaniferous material followed by precipitating from titanium sulfate solution ammonium titanyl double sulfate monohydrate with subsequent treatment of that salt with ammonium sulfate solution to obtain the compound of titanium sulfate as a tanning agent. Methods of tanning using conventional techniques require up to 10 per cent of the titanium tanning agent by weight of the pelt calculated as TiO.sub.2.
