ABSTRACT:
A method of and apparatus for manufacturing and evaluating an optical fiber coupler in which the optical fibers are heated so that they are conjoined together through fusion and elongated to constitute the tapered portion of the optical fiber coupler, and characterized in that the tapered portion is housed and secured in a protective casing or the like as the portion remains positively twisted after the fusion conjoining and elongation of the fibers.
