ABSTRACT:
Method for making electrolytes for Li/metal tetrachoroaluminate.nSO.sub.2 /carbon rechargeable cells containing calcium or sodium tetrachloroaluminate, by treating the metal tetrachloroaluminate salt mixture with sulfuryl chloride to purify it of hydrolysis products, removing the sulfuryl chloride, and dissolving the mixture in sulfur dioxide.
