ABSTRACT:
A method of making a catalytic converter for use in the exhaust systems of combustion engines comprises the steps of inserting a porous monolithic refractory catalyst element inside a tubular metal shell with a resilient annular fibrous sleeve around the element, securing the element in position inside the shell, and thereafter attaching inlet and outlet headers to the shell by fitting annular end sections on the headers to the exterior end perpheral surfaces of the shell and welding them thereto.
