ABSTRACT:
There is disclosed a method of depositing a nanocomposite coating of stainless steel and a metallic carbide or metallic nitride, e.g. chromium carbide or chromium nitride, onto a stainless steel substrate10, including the steps of (a) providing the stainless steel substrate10; (b) depositing stainless steel on the substrate10; (c) depositing chromium carbide or chromium nitride on the substrate10; and allowing a nanocomposite coating14of the stainless steel and chromium carbide or chromium nitride to form on the substrate10.
