ABSTRACT:
A rotor disc assembly10for an AC machine includes a rotor disc20, permanent magnets30and a spider40. The rotor disc10has a circumferential lip22projecting from a surface thereof. The permanent magnets30are positioned in a circular array on the surface of the rotor disc20, with constant angular pitch, and so as to lie against the lip22. The spider includes an annular base portion41, with a plurality of arms42projecting radially outwards therefrom. The spider40is fixed to the surface of the rotor disc20such that each arm42is between and abuts a respective juxtaposed pair of the permanent magnets30. The arms42and the members30are each provided with cooperating wedge-shaped cross sections such that each arm42constrains the respective two permanent magnets30both axially and tangentially on the surface of the rotor disc20.
