ABSTRACT:
A coupler for at least two optical fibres in which at least one port is redundant, e.g. a 1.times.2 or a 1.times.3 coupler, is formed by first terminating the fibre end which is to form that redundant port, and then coupling the fibres e.g. by fusion.
