An amplitude ratio K.sub.H of a specific level of a modulating wave and a crest value of a carrier wave is introduced into control of a pulse width modulated inverter, and a desired pulse width modulating signal is calculated by a microcomputer, using the amplitude ratio K.sub.H as a control variable.
