ABSTRACT:
In a method of controlled rod or wire rolling of alloy steel, for example austenitic steel, in a rolling mill comprising a plurality of roll blocks (1, 2, 3) each having a plurality of roll stands, the temperature of the alloy steel being rolled in brought to a predetermined value in its passage between the blocks (1, 2, 3) by positive cooling by a cooler (6, 7) and/or positive heating by a heater (10, 11). Rolling at a specified temperature, or a specified temperature differential between the surface and the core, of the alloy steel being rolled is thus made possible.
