A method of conducting circumferential welding on electric welded steel pipes to form a continuous line pipe to be laid on the sea bottom by a reel barge method. The formation of the final welding layer is executed with a welding material having a strength which is 5 kg/mm.sup.2 or more lower than that of the welding material used for forming the welding layers underlying the final layer.
