ABSTRACT:
An improved high speed magnetic tape duplicator incorporates superior features from both thermomagnetic and anhysteretic processes to increase productivity in operating economics. Starting with a basic transport configuration of existing thermomagnetic equipment, the heating and cooling facilities are removed along with the non-magnetic transfer drum, and replaced with a magnetizable drum assembly and bias-field head suitable to anhysteretic duplication. Provisions are also added to correct tension errors so as to minimize skew and the transport control electronics are preferably replaced with a personal computer-based controller capable of furnishing additional functional capabilities including production reporting. Optionally, the master-tape loop-bin chamber is also specially modified with electrically ground static-control provisions.
