A method of attracting flies of the Muscidae or Muscinae families comprising providing in a locus where the flies exist a fly attractant composition which contains as an active ingredient a composition extracted from a bamboo with an extractive solvent such as water or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alcohol.
