ABSTRACT:
Methods of controlling the power level of a pulsed laser beam being used to scan barcodes and the like in order to increase the depth-of-field. The pulses may comprise a plurality of pulses above and below a maximum legal power level so that, on average, the power output is below the legal limit. The sensor may be monitored for no-signal and over-signal conditions and the power of the laser beam adjusted accordingly.
