ABSTRACT:
Hydrocarbons are reacted with a tri-halogenoacetate of the formula ##EQU1## wherein X, Y and Z each represents a halogen atom and M represents a mono valent metal of group Ib to form the corresponding complexes, and then the thus formed complexes are decomposed to selectively separate the desired hydrocarbon components. The used tri-halogenoacetate also is recovered by the decomposition of the complexes.
