ABSTRACT:
A soft and strong composite sheet for an artificial leather is provided by superimposing a fabric or woven or knitted construction and a non-woven fiber web, anchoring fibers of the non-woven fiber web with the fabric by needle punching to form a composite sheet and thereafter coating or impregnating the composite sheet with a binder solution. The fabric is constructed at least partly from high twist multifilament yarn and the non-woven fiber web is constructed from fibers having an average fiber length of at least 20 mm, the number of fibers being at least 10 fibers/cm.sup.2.
