ABSTRACT:
An unknown impedance can be determined in an analytically exact way by measuring in succession the 3 complex transmission coefficients of a transmission path, in which a measurement cell with the unknown impedance or with one of two known impedances is inserted. This is a broad-band method which takes into account all mismatches of the transmission line and of the measurement cell. Dielectric and magnetic material parameters can be determined via these impedance measurements.
