ABSTRACT:
A method for reclaiming carbon black from scrap rubber material including the following steps. The scrap rubber material is first pyrolyzed to produce a char material that contains a mixture of agglomerated or cluster particles which consist of agglomerations of finer carbon black particles and unitary grit like particles. The agglomerated particles are then selectively de-agglomerated by agitation of the char material into the finite component particles of carbon black. These finite component particles are then separated from the unitary particles to obtain a final carbon black which is comparable to commerical grade carbon blacks.
