ABSTRACT:
The present invention has an object to provide a method for purifying a fluorinated hydroxyl compound of the formula 1 safely in a high yield under industrially practical conditions. Namely, a mixture containing a fluorinated hydroxyl compound of Rf—CR1R2—OH (Formula 1, wherein Rfis a C1-20polyfluoroalkyl group, and each of R1and R2is a hydrogen atom or a C1-3alkyl group) such as 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropanol, and a compound having an unshared electron pair, is distilled by heating in the presence of a solid acid catalyst such as a cation exchange resin catalyst, or by adding a proton source such as water.
