ABSTRACT:
1,2-Dichloroethane is pyrolyzed in a pyrolysis furnace to produce a stream comprising vinyl chloride and 1,2-dichloroethane. The stream is removed from the furnace and introduced to essentially unheated conduit means to establish a stream flowing in the conduit means. Pyrolysis promoter is introduced to the stream in the conduit means and sensible heat of the stream is utilized in the conduit means to pyrolyze further amounts of 1,2-dichloroethane and to increase the yield of vinyl chloride.
