ABSTRACT:
A method for producing a substituted pyridine derivative of the formula (II): ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, and m is an integer of from 1 to 3, which comprises reducing a substituted trichloromethylpyridine derivative of the formula (I): ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are as defined above, with use of acetic acid, hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, as a proton donor, and zinc, tin or a mixture thereof, as a reducing agent.
