The present invention relates to a method for producing a compound represented by formula (2):in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?[CF3(CF2)n][CF3(CF2)m]C(OH)2  (2)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein n and m independently represent 0 to 10, the method comprising reacting with a halogen or a halogen-containing oxidizing agent a salt of a compound represented by formula (1):in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?[CF3(CF2)n][CF3(CF2)m]C(OH)COOH  (1)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein n and m independently represent 0 to 10.
