An adiponitrile/methylglutaronitrile preparation process includes distilling a reaction stream to obtain stream3depleted in pentenenitriles (bottom product) and stream4enriched in pentenenitriles (top product); extracting stream3obtaining stream6enriched with extractant (top product) and stream7depleted in extractant (bottom product); distilling stream6obtaining stream8comprising the catalyst (bottom product) and stream9comprising the extractant (top product); distilling stream7obtaining stream10(bottom product) and stream11comprising the extractant (top product); distilling stream10obtaining stream12comprising catalyst degradation products, at least one promotor, adiponitrile and methylglutaronitrile (bottom product) and stream13comprising pentenenitriles (top product); distilling stream12obtaining stream14comprising catalyst degradation products and the promotor(s) (bottom product) and stream15comprising adiponitrile and methylglutaronitrile (top product); distilling stream15obtaining stream16comprising adiponitrile (bottom product) and stream17comprising methylglutaronitrile (top product).
