ABSTRACT:
A method for producing ultra-high strength galvanized steel strip from a martensitic, plain carbon, steel strip which is pre-treated by induction heating rapidly or by fluxing, then hot dip galvanized and tempered, and then cooled to stop further tempering. The resulting galvanized steel strip has a microstructure comprising tempered martensite, a tensile strength substantially greater than 120,000 psi (827 MPa) and a coating weight substantially greater than 30 g/m.sup.2 /side.
