ABSTRACT:
A method for producing a cycloolefin which comprises partially hydrogenating an aromatic hydrocarbon with hydrogen in a liquid phase in the presence of water and a catalyst having as main component ruthenium supported on a carrier, to form the corresponding cycloolefin, wherein an oxide with the total pore volume of pores having radii of from 20 to 100,000 .ANG. being from 0.3 to 10 cc/g and with the volume of pores having radii of from 20 to 200 .ANG. constituting at most 15% of the total pore volume, is used as the carrier for the catalyst.
